Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client's Manchester office.\nIn this role, you will provide expert design consultancy across a range of building services projects, taking ownership of allocated schemes from concept through to completion. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical and quality standards.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\n * \n Taking ownership of client relationships and clearly defining project scope.\n * \n Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineers to deliver designs aligned with agreed scope, internal quality procedures, industry best practice, health & safety standards, and client requirements.\n * \n Managing and overseeing the preparation of mechanical working designs for building services.\n * \n Producing and delivering specifications, drawings, calculations, schematics, layouts, reports, and design notes to agreed timescales.\n * \n Monitoring project progress and managing design variations throughout the lifecycle.\n * \n Carrying out site surveys, investigations, and research to inform design development.\n * \n Preparing calculations to support equipment selection and system performance.\n * \n Promoting sustainable and low-carbon design solutions across all projects.\n * \n Presenting designs for Quality Assurance review.\n * \n Supporting, mentoring, and overseeing junior engineers.\n * \n Identifying Health & Safety and CDM considerations in both design and site operations.\n * \n Keeping up to date with industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies.\n * \n Identifying new tools, techniques, and innovations to enhance technical standards and profitability.\n * \n Supporting business development activities and promoting the company to clients and professional partners.\nWe’re looking for someone with strong experience in:\n * \n Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and their impact on building services design\n * \n British Standards, Building Regulations, and sector-specific guidance\n * \n Health & Safety in design and operations, including CDM regulations\n * \n Mechanical ventilation and air conditioning systems\n * \n Heating and cooling services\n * \n Domestic hot and cold water systems\n * \n Foul, waste, and rainwater drainage systems\n * \n Dynamic simulation software such as IES (or similar)\n * \n Acoustic design requirements relating to mechanical and electrical plant\n * \n Drafting software including Revit and AutoCAD\n * \n Sustainable and low-carbon design principles\n * \n Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams\n * \n Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)\nQualifications\n * \n Degree or Higher Qualification in a Building Services-related discipline\n * \n Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience\n * \n Working towards Chartership (desirable)\nThis is a genuine opportunity to join a collaborative, motivated, and forward-thinking consultancy.
