Senior Operational Due Diligence Analyst – Russell Investments
Engage in rigorous operational risk assessment of traditional and alternative investment managers. Work globally across private markets including hedge funds, private equity, private real estate, and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Evaluate business, compliance, and operational risks by conducting desktop and on‑site due diligence reviews of investment managers worldwide.
Lead due diligence focusing on organizational structure, regulatory compliance, legal entity risks, fund structure risks, allocation policy, valuation policy, cash and collateral management, trading infrastructure, asset monitoring, information technology, background checks, and third‑party service providers.
Obtain and analyze manager documentation including offering memorandums, fund formation documents, deal documents, financial statements, regulatory filings, due diligence questionnaires, policies, and procedures.
Identify key operational risk areas, confirm remediation actions, and implement mitigating controls.
Prepare written reports documenting findings and recommendations for internal and external distribution.
Communicate summary conclusions to internal stakeholders and conduct follow‑up with managers on recommendations or risk findings.
Maintain and track remediation/action plans; elevate material issues to Investment, Legal, Compliance, and Operational Risk; present at appropriate governance forums.
Ensure records management/data systems are maintained and up to date.
Proactively identify and support efforts/projects to evolve the team’s operational due diligence practice.
Contribute to client deliverables including due diligence reports, RFPs/RFIs, and responses to client operational questionnaires; support client meetings as subject‑matter expert.
Stay current with industry best practices and key events across regulatory, technology/systems, and trading areas.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience). MBA or CFA preferred.
Significant experience in Business Analyst, Operations, Internal Audit, or Compliance within financial services, with operational due diligence expertise.
Knowledge of private equity/real estate/hedge fund strategies, trading, valuation, and industry best practices is preferred.
Experience in private markets operational due diligence and strong understanding of the regulatory framework in the UK.
Demonstrated initiative to work independently and execute responsibilities efficiently.
Strong attention to detail; ability to triage and reconcile information from multiple sources.
Ability to support ongoing reviews and lead ad hoc projects while meeting deadlines; multi‑task and prioritize effectively.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills integrating tact and diplomacy.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; project management and coding skills preferred.
Practical familiarity with generative AI tools for document review and workflow efficiency is preferred.
Familiarity with global regulatory and compliance regimes, rules, and regulations preferred.
Familiarity with investment best practices across operations, accounting, technology, and compliance preferred.
Willingness and ability for domestic and international travel.
