This opportunity is ideal for an engineer looking to join our River and Coastal Team in either Exeter, Taunton, Bristol, or Cardiff as a Senior or Principal Engineer, with full support provided for your career development and advancement.
This position offers the opportunity to be involved in the design and management of a diverse portfolio of river, coastal and land development projects. These may include flood risk, river engineering, and supporting wider strategic land development schemes for a variety of public and private sector clients.
We’re looking for someone with a strong background in the design, optioneering, coordination, and successful delivery of projects with excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and public bodies. You’ll bring hands‑on experience across all project stages from concept to completion including project coordination and making sound engineering decisions.
As a key member of our River and Coastal team, your role would involve the following:
Preparing designs for drainage strategies, flood risk management, river engineering and river restoration schemes.
Undertaking calculations and reports for planning and the design stage.
Preparing plans and drawings at all stages of the project development cycle (concept through to construction).
Design of Earthworks, river structures and drainage schemes and the preparation of the associated specifications.
Ensuring high quality delivery in design through QA checks.
Engaging with the Environment Agency and other stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals.
Liaising with clients, third party bodies and multi-disciplinary teams and disciplines on all relevant aspects of projects.
Supporting projects during the construction stage, including site queries and inspections.
Opportunity to grow the team and mentor junior engineers, with potential for line management (experience depending).
Project Management (experience dependent, however training available).
About You:
Civil Engineering degree, or similar.
Chartered professional status, or close to application.
Previous experience in an Infrastructure or Environmental Design role.
Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments, design of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) with good knowledge of relevant current standards and guidelines and contemporary environmental solutions.
Experience of working with other disciplines and interested parties with regards to the design and detailing of works.
Ability to represent the employer in a client-facing role.
Able to work independently.
