Job Title: Senior Pastoral Support Worker
Location: Glebedale School, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 3AY
Salary: £23,000 to £28,000 per annum, depending on experience (not pro rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent | Full Time
Start Date: February 2026

About the role
As Senior Pastoral Support Worker, you will lead and deliver high-quality pastoral care across the school. Working closely with pupils, teaching staff, families, and external professionals, you will support students’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
You will be a trusted adult for pupils who need additional guidance, providing structure, encouragement, and calm support during challenging moments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual pastoral and behavioural support to pupils
- Monitor the social, emotional and behavioural development of students within the school, liaising with the staff team and offering support where necessary
- Receive, supervise and support pupils who are not ready for learning or who have barriers to learning.
- Support the assessment of pupils to determine those in need of particular help and support.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual Education/ Behavioural/ Support/ Mentoring plans and behaviour management strategies.
- Help to develop one to one mentoring sessions with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils.
- Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning, behaviour and attendance.
- Support the challenge and motivation of pupils, promoting and reinforcing self-esteem.
- Support pupils’ access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources.
- To respond to pupils unable to access learning; ensuring a calm environment.
What We’re Looking For
- A caring, proactive professional with experience supporting children or young people
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
- Confidence in managing behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
- A team player who can also work independently and show initiative
- GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) or above in English and Maths
