Senior Platform Engineer

Manchester (Hybrid)

Up to £72,000 + Bonus – Permanent

Play your part in one of the UK’s most important national security programmes — right here in Manchester. Our Platform Engineering team is expanding, and we’re looking for experienced engineers who want to apply their consulting and technical expertise to projects that protect the country and make a tangible impact.

You’ll be based in our growing Manchester hub, working in agile, multidisciplinary teams that blend technical delivery with consulting know-how. Expect variety, challenge, and the chance to work on systems at scale while helping shape the North West’s national security technology footprint.

What you’ll be doing

• Designing, building, and delivering secure and scalable platforms for high-impact projects
• Working with agile teams to solve client challenges with creativity and engineering best practice
• Embedding automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and code analysis into delivery
• Balancing hands-on technical work with consulting-style problem solving
• Getting involved in community outreach and skills initiatives across the Manchester tech scene

Experience required

• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Java, JavaScript, .Net, Python)
• Strong background with version control (Git, Mercurial, etc.) and CI/CD (Jenkins, Bamboo, Bitbucket, TeamCity)
• Experience delivering in agile environments (Scrum, Kanban, Lean)
• Understanding of software design patterns and engineering practices
• Current SC clearance is a bonus — eligibility is essential

• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Database systems (SQL, NoSQL, Graph)
• Deployment tools (Ansible)
• Exposure to ML technologies (TensorFlow, AWS/Azure ML)
