The position is ideally suited to someone who has previously built a reporting function in a financial-services environment and is comfortable operating independently while engaging closely with stakeholders across Operations, IT, and Data teams.
The role covers the development of a new Power BI reporting environment, support for operational and reconciliation systems, and ongoing enhancements aligned to upcoming migration and control-related initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Power BI Architecture, Development & Governance
Build the Power BI reporting environment contributing to architecture design, security configuration, data-source connectivity, and governance standards.
Establish style guides, templates, and best-practice standards to ensure consistency and scalability across the organisation’s reporting capabilities.
Design and develop dashboards, reports, and data models that provide insights into operational performance, reconciliation data, SLAs, break volumes, and other control metrics.
Document processes related to report development, publishing, governance workflows, and change management.
Operational Data & Reconciliation Reporting
Work with reconciliations across ledgers, middle-office platforms, bond-trading systems, and operational controls.
Integrate data from reconciliation tools (e.g., Duco) and third-party/ internal systems.
Analyse and translate business requirements into BI solutions that address pain points and provide actionable insights.
Engage with Operations Control teams to deliver MI supporting reconciliation performance and operational risk management.
Technical Support & Systems Analysis
Provide functional and technical support for production systems in Trade Operations, including:
SWIFT applications
Internal/external reconciliations (in-house and third-party)
Cash & Intraday Liquidity Management systems
Post-trade lifecycle platforms
Operational reporting applications and volumes tools
Troubleshoot technical issues related to data connectivity, firewalls, SQL drivers, and cloud-based data integrations (e.g., Azure).
Collaborate with Middleware and Data Warehouse teams for issue diagnosis, data sourcing, and optimisation.
Project Delivery & Continuous Improvement
Balance hands-on BI development with strategic planning and process improvement.
Support upcoming migration projects by extending the reporting function across multiple platforms and data domains.
Drive improvements to reporting processes, support models, and implementation practices.
Produce project documentation such as BRDs, functional and non-functional requirements, and data/process models.
Skills and Qualifications:
Extensive experience with Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, security configurations, and Azure-based deployment.
Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and cloud/relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Mongo, Oracle, Snowflake).
Hands-on SQL capability with the ability to query, troubleshoot, and optimise data workflows.
Experience establishing reporting functions from scratch within a financial-services environment.
Strong knowledge of operational processes, reconciliations, trade lifecycle systems, and control frameworks, preferred but not essential.
Ability to create effective data models, cleanse/transform data, and design intuitive dashboards and visualisations.
Basic UNIX navigation skills; familiarity with XML, HTML, Tomcat, or web-based applications from a support perspective.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong documentation skills including runbooks, procedures, and governance materials.
Ability to work autonomously, proactively, and with a continuous-improvement mindset.
Desirable
Experience building reconciliation-focused dashboards or MI for back-office operations.
Experience working collaboratively with Middleware and Data Warehouse teams.
Understanding of data-quality frameworks and data-storytelling techniques.
Proficiency with Excel VBA and Microsoft Visio.
Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving.
Cross-functional collaboration with Operations, IT, Data teams, and SMEs.
Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions with clear rationale.
Proactive in introducing improvements, setting standards, and innovating.
Comfortable operating without direct reports but able to grow the function over time.
