We are seeking a Principal / Senior Consultant BMS (Building Management Systems) Controls engineer to join the UK Building Technology Systems team.Work with clients to develop and engineer industry-leading HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) control designs, responding to performance design requirements.Coordinate delivery of HVAC controls, including motor control panel design and production, software configuration, graphic packages, and installation and commissioning scope details.Apply controls engineering expertise to improve mechanical and electrical building system designs.Engage with wider design teams across multi-disciplinary projects to advocate for and achieve BMS and smart building outcomes beyond direct design responsibility.Lead systems integration design activities across building services systems.Team and ProjectsOur UK Building Services Team delivers projects ranging from High Rise Towers (e.g., 22 Bishopsgate, 40 Leadenhall) to hyper-scale data centres, stadia, and transformative healthcare projects such as the Leeds Hospital of the Future programme.As leaders in Building Technology consultancy, we aim to set the standard for specialist ICT and Smart Consulting to clients across the built environment.What We Will Be Looking For You To DemonstrateStrategic BMS Controls engineering experience and understanding of BMS software and best practices.Applied industry experience in control and automation at technician/engineer level in critical and secure environments.Detailed knowledge of major manufacturers equipment/systems (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Schneider, Siemens, Honeywell, Trend, Delta Controls).Ability to design and specify implementation of these technologies, documenting formal requirements for approval and development, and roadmaps to implementation.Coordination of subcontractors and internal resources to develop and integrate BMS sub-disciplines to deliver full BMS system solutions, including master system integrator contractors.Awareness of HVAC technology trends and market direction in reducing energy consumption.Deliver controls and building performance related advice and develop technical documentation.Develop design and engineering requirements for building control systems for a varied range of buildings, from small to very large, with varying complexity.Produce detailed performance specifications subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.Design control systems to integrate with cloud analytics, device naming and points naming standards, cyber-security, and network connectivity implications.Awareness of smart building technology trends including standardisation of device and point naming (e.g., BDNS initiative from the Open Data Institute).Understanding of specialist building systems including fire safety, lighting, security, ICT infrastructure and cloud connectivity for modern smart buildings.Awareness of post-occupancy evaluation and design-for-performance initiatives such as NABERS UK.Awareness of relevant industry accreditation such as WELL, LEED, BREEAM SmartScore, WiredScore, etc.Report writing and specification writing skills.Completion of the three BCIA technical training modules (fundamentals of HVAC & Building Technology; measuring & control technology; hydraulics in building services).Chartered status considerations via CIBSE/Engineering Council accreditation or equivalent experience leading to Chartership.Problem solving and analytical skills, project management experience, and ownership over work for clients.Don’t quite meet all the criteria?
