Are you an experienced Highways Engineer ready to step into a more senior or principal role within a growing and well-established consultancy?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior / Principal Highways Design Engineer to join a transport & infrastructure consultancy in Gateshead, working on a diverse range of projects across both the private and public sectors.

This consultancy operates across highways design, transport planning, drainage and environmental services, offering a genuinely integrated project approach.
You'll be joining a close-knit, collaborative team with a strong pipeline of work, where you'll have the opportunity to remain hands-on technically while also taking on greater responsibility in project delivery and team support.

\nThe Role\n
As a Senior / Principal Engineer, you'll play a key role in both technical delivery and project coordination.
Responsibilities will include:
\n
\n
Leading the design of roads, junctions, roundabouts and pavements\n
\n
Overseeing and reviewing highway design outputs\n
\n
Supporting project delivery from concept through to detailed design\n
\n
Working closely with internal teams across transport planning and drainage\n
\n
Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
\n
Liaising with clients, local authorities and stakeholders
\n
Supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects
\n
\nWhat We're Looking For\n
\n
Strong experience in highways design, including:\n
\n
Roads and junctions
\n
Roundabouts
\n
Pavement design
\n
\n
\n
Experience using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D\n
\n
Experience working within a consultancy environment\n
\n
For senior candidates:\n
\n
Some experience in drainage design is beneficial
\n
\n
\n
Ability to take ownership of project delivery and support junior staff
\n
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
\n
