Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer (Water)
Working Location: UK (Hybrid)
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver mechanical design outputs in line with safety and quality requirements
- Produce calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
- Lead coordination with CAD technicians and support their development
- Manage interfaces with subcontract design teams (including M&E)
- Prepare scopes and review third-party design outputs
- Engage with suppliers, review tenders, and support equipment selection
- Produce reports, specifications, and design investigations
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and engineering practices
- Manage design changes and ensure accurate documentation
- Support estimation and planning of design activities
- Attend and present at technical and client meetings
Requirements:
- Experience in mechanical design within the UK water sector
- Exposure to both clean water and wastewater projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)
- Experience with hydraulic design and associated calculations
- Knowledge of schemes such as UMON or similar upgrade programmes
- Understanding of construction methods and engineering drawing practices
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
- Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers or technicians
- Degree, HND, or equivalent experience
