Senior Project Engineer (Mechanical – Building Services / MEP)

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria


We are working in partnership with a leading UK engineering and infrastructure services contractor to recruit two Senior Project Engineers (Mechanical) for a major £10m programme on a secure nuclear defence site in Cumbria.


Our client is a well-established, nationally recognised organisation delivering complex mechanical and electrical solutions across defence, infrastructure, energy and large-scale industrial environments. With a strong order book and long-term secured frameworks, they offer genuine stability and progression beyond the initial project.


The Project

This role supports a significant redevelopment programme within a highly regulated nuclear defence environment.


The mechanical scope includes:

  • Chilled water systems
  • Ventilation and HVAC installations
  • New-build facilities within a live operational site


The position is fully site-based (Monday–Friday), with a half-day finish on Fridays to support travel.

Two positions are available across separate workstreams.


The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take responsibility for delivery of mechanical building services packages from installation through to commissioning and handover.


Key duties include:

  • Managing subcontractors and specialist supply chain partners
  • Technical review of drawings and specifications
  • Programme coordination and reporting
  • Ensuring strict compliance with safety, quality and nuclear site standards
  • Supporting commissioning and client handover
  • Maintaining commercial awareness across your allocated packages


About You

We are seeking a mechanically biased Senior Project Engineer with a strong Building Services / MEP background.


You will have:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects
  • Experience with HVAC, chilled water and ventilation systems
  • Strong site-based project delivery capability
  • Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance
  • British national due to SC clearance required
  • No recent work history outside the UK


Experience within defence, nuclear, pharmaceutical, data centres or other regulated environments would be highly advantageous.
