The role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager for a 12 month fixed-term contract to join our retained construction business, responsible for managing complex project portfolios and the close down of liabilities across the United Kingdom. This strategic role requires exceptional stakeholder management expertise, technical knowledge, and the ability to work closely with international executives while navigating complex legal frameworks.
What will you do?
- Oversee a diverse portfolio of construction projects across the United Kingdom, promoting a seamless close-down of Lendlease liabilities.
- Strategic portfolio oversight and hands-on project management, requiring you to maintain a comprehensive understanding of each project's scope, timeline, budget, and risk profile.
- Responsible for developing and implementing portfolio-level strategies that optimize resource allocation, identify synergies between projects, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements while maintaining focus on commercial objectives and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and escalation within the UK for key stakeholders including clients, contractors, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and community representatives.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly and persuasively will be essential in managing expectations, resolving conflicts, and securing stakeholder buy-in for project decisions.
- Conduct regular stakeholder engagement meetings, establishing communication protocols, and facilitating collaborative decision-making processes.
- Collating and coordinating programmes across multiple projects to ensure optimal resource utilization and timeline alignment.
- Work closely with project teams to develop integrated master schedules that account for dependencies, resource constraints, and critical path activities.
- Regular programme reviews, progress monitoring, and proactive identification of potential conflicts or delays.
- Implementation of standardized reporting mechanisms that provide clear visibility into programme status and enable informed decision-making at both project and portfolio levels.
- Challenging design proposals and technical solutions to ensure they meet project requirements while optimizing cost, quality, and constructability.
- Conducting thorough design reviews, facilitating value engineering sessions, and coordinating with technical specialists and experts to evaluate alternative approaches to reach agreement of defect close-out.
- Technical review responsibilities extend to managing design teams, evaluating contractor proposals, assessing construction methodologies, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Work closely with design teams to balance aesthetic, functional, and commercial considerations while maintaining focus on project objectives.
- Close collaboration and regular reporting to Lendlease executives based in the global head office in Australia, requiring you to maintain strong communication links across different time zones.
- Extensive interface with legal teams and external legal counsel to ensure operational strategies align with legal strategies.
- Responsible for ensuring that all project activities comply with applicable legal requirements, including building codes, environmental regulations, employment law, and health and safety standards.
- Responsibilities also extend to dispute resolution and claims management, requiring you to work with legal counsel to address contractual disputes, insurance claims, and counter claims of defect liability.
You will bring
- Your role requires exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, particularly when working with diverse stakeholder groups across different regions of the UK.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with an understanding of project management software and scheduling tools.
- Sophisticated planning skills and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining overall programme coherence.
- Deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and technologies, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Construction industry experience will be crucial in identifying potential design issues early in the process and proposing practical solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to present complex information in formats that facilitate executive decision-making.
- Solid understanding of construction law, planning regulations, health and safety legislation, and commercial contract principles.
Where?
This role requires travel throughout the United Kingdom to visit project sites, attend stakeholder meetings, and coordinate with regional teams. You should expect to spend approximately 20-30% of your time traveling to project locations, with the remainder based at the head office or working remotely.
