A global hedge fund is looking to add a Senior Data Platform Engineer to a core engineering team responsible for building and operating a modern market data platform.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, data systems, and DevOps. The successful candidate will help co-own a Linux-based, containerised data platform built on modern open-source tooling, working across development, integration, and production reliability.

The team is small and highly technical, and this role is suited to engineers who enjoy understanding systems end-to-end, debugging complex cross-service issues, and taking responsibility for platforms that run in live environments.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and extend a production market data platform built primarily in Python
• Work across ingestion, transformation, storage, and orchestration layers of the system
• Develop and maintain backend services and data pipelines
• Debug and resolve issues across multiple integrated systems and open-source components
• Contribute to platform stability, observability, and performance in a Linux environment
• Work with containerised infrastructure (Nomad today, potential migration to Kubernetes)
• Support and optimise data storage layers (e.g. relational and columnar systems)
• Collaborate closely with a senior lead engineer to evolve and harden the platform
• Take ownership of production incidents and help improve system resilience over time

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong hands-on Python development experience in production systems
• Experience designing and operating data-intensive or distributed systems
• Comfortable working in Linux and containerised environments
• Exposure to DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, deployments, runtime debugging)
• Experience with modern data tooling (e.g. orchestration frameworks, lakehouse technologies, dbt, Iceberg or similar) is advantageous
• Experience working with market or financial data is helpful but not essential
• Strong ownership mindset and willingness to operate in a “build and run” environment
