Senior Quantity Surveyor | Hertfordshire | Groundworks

We need a first- class Senior QS to get right in the thick of things with this regional Groundworks contractor. This is all about protecting margin, spotting risks and making absolutely certain that nothing slips through the cracks commercially.

A history withing Groundworks is critical here. You will be only too aware of how quickly things can move and how quickly money can be lost if you’re not on top of it.

Day to day – what you will actually do:

• Owning the commercial performance of multiple projects
• Working closely with PMs to keep jobs on track financially and contractually
• Pricing and pushing variations as they happen (not 3 months later)
• Making sure applications go in on time - no lazy submissions
• Keeping a tight grip on CVRs, cashflow, and margins
• Managing subcontractor packages and making sure risk flows the right way
• Chasing what’s owed-professionally, but firmly

This certainly isn’t a sit back and observe role.

They want someone who:

• Takes ownership without being asked
• Is commercially switched on (not just process-driven)
• Knows NEC / JCT and understands how to use them
• Is comfortable being assertive with clients when needed
• Can balance relationships with protecting the business

There’s also a leadership angle-supporting less experienced staff and raising the overall commercial standard.
