Senior Quantity Surveyor Job Overview

Due to the award of a major 5-year framework, a leading civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team in Exeter.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within the water and utilities sector, delivering high-value capital works projects, including pumping stations, major diversions, and water mains renewals.

The business operates across civil engineering, energy, and rail infrastructure, and is experiencing sustained growth, offering strong career progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities Senior Quantity Surveyor

Manage a portfolio of projects valued at approximately £20M
Provide commercial leadership and support to junior Quantity Surveyors
Offer contractual advice to operational and delivery teams
Administer and manage NEC contracts
Review, appoint, and manage subcontractors and supply chain partners
Raise and manage subcontracts in line with governance procedures
Monitor project costs, variations, and change control
Identify commercial risks and opportunities to maximise project value
Carry out subcontract valuations and authorise payments
Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate cost and data reporting

Senior Quantity Surveyor Requirements

HNC / Degree (BSc) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
Minimum 5+ years experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or utilities
Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
Experience working for a main contractor or subcontractor
Proven track record of managing infrastructure or water sector projects
Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills
