Senior Radar Analyst Salary: up to £65,000 per year + benefits Location: North London Hours: Monday to Friday, no weekends Role Overview: Our client seeks a Senior Radar Analyst / Signal Processing Engineer to design, develop and analytically support advanced radar and sensing systems. The position resides in a Research & Development environment, focusing on modelling, performance analysis and concept development for current and next‑generation radar technologies applied to energy infrastructure, renewables, maritime and critical national systems. The role influences future sensing and monitoring solutions for complex operational environments, including offshore and remote energy assets. Key Responsibilities / Job Scope
Provide detailed technical analysis of radar and radar-related systems for existing platforms and future technology development. Generate and evaluate new radar system design concepts, informed by operational requirements and emerging industry needs within the power, energy and renewables space. Develop high‑fidelity models of current and future radar systems to establish design limits, performance characteristics and optimisation opportunities. Support R&D teams by providing expert technical input across system design, verification and performance assessment activities. Contribute to technology development programmes focused on monitoring, detection, situational awareness and asset protection for critical energy infrastructure.
Core Job Functions
Develop and maintain mathematical and simulation models of radar systems and sub‑systems using MATLAB, Simulink and Mathcad. Produce accurate and robust design data to support both hardware and software development teams. Assist in verification, validation and acceptance of developed hardware and software solutions. Produce, review and contribute to detailed technical specifications to enable the development of new equipment and system upgrades. Conduct in‑depth radar performance analysis, process trial or test data, and produce clear technical reports for internal and external stakeholders. Design, implement and optimise digital signal processing algorithms to enhance detection, tracking and classification performance. Liaise with sub‑system suppliers and technology partners to ensure performance, quality and delivery requirements are met. Take a leading or contributory role in the development of next‑generation radar and sensing systems, from concept through to demonstration. Prepare and deliver technical presentations and papers to customers, partners and external organisations as required. Undertake UK and overseas travel as part of project delivery, trials, supplier engagement or customer support (travel may be required at short notice). Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering or similar from a reputable university. Strong practical experience using MATLAB and applying digital signal processing techniques. Working knowledge of radar systems or closely related fields such as sonar, communications, image or signal processing. Demonstrated ability to.Offset complex analysis and design tasks on time and within budget. Self‑motivated individual who enjoys working collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, able to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
Preferred Qualifications (advantageous but not required):
Radar signal processing techniques such as Pulse Compression, Doppler Filtering, CFAR and target detection. Radar video or image processing, plot extraction and target tracking algorithms. Phased array radar systems and associated processing techniques. Embedded software development, Linux‑based systems or FPGA development. Understanding of RF systems, antenna design or radar electronics. Background in Systems Engineering or秒 R&D‑led environments, including exposure to technical papers, patents or academic research. Comfortable conducting hardware testing, integration and debugging using laboratory equipment. Experience with source control and issue tracking tools (e.g. Git, JIRA). Additional programming experience in Python, C or C++.
