The Environment Agency is committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We seek diversity, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment. All new employees will receive comprehensive training and support, including necessary equipment.
We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our Installations Team in Yorkshire, focusing on hazardous waste and waste classification. Our EPR Installations handle large volumes of hazardous waste, which must be accurately classified and described to prevent environmental impacts and ensure fair industry operation.
You will serve as the Installations Hazardous Waste Technical Lead, overseeing hazardous waste regulatory delivery, contributing to the development and implementation of the hazardous waste regime, and reporting on performance. Your focus will be on compliance activities related to waste classification, reviewing assessments per Technical Guidance WM3 to ensure accuracy.
Responding to incidents is a core part of the role, with training provided and potential additional payments. The team is based in Yorkshire, with flexible working across Leeds, Rotherham, York, or Beverley, regulating various industrial sectors.
Required skills and experience include strong operational knowledge of the Hazardous Waste regime, technical expertise in waste compliance and regulations, problem-solving abilities, effective workload management, excellent communication skills, and preferably a relevant degree or professional membership. A full UK driving license is essential due to travel requirements.
Benefits include generous leave, pension, flexible working, staff networks, and career development opportunities. The role involves regular travel across Yorkshire, with office locations in Leeds, Beverley, York, or Rotherham. For inquiries, contact Sharon Swaine at sharon.swaine@environment-agency.gov.uk. Interviews are scheduled for early September 2025, with options for face-to-face or MS Teams interviews.
Applicants may be considered for other roles within the organization, and a reserve list will be maintained for six months.
