Simulator Engineer – Shift Lead
Location: Burgess Hill
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (days, nights, or mixed)
About the Role
Arden White Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment are currently working with a leading and well-established aviation training and simulation organisation, supporting commercial flight operations within the wider airline and business aviation sector.
Our client is seeking an experienced Simulator Engineer – Shift Lead to join their Burgess Hill training facility. This is a newly created position, introduced to strengthen shift coverage and long-term operational resilience following upcoming retirements within the team.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, this role offers genuine responsibility, visibility, and the opportunity to step into a formal leadership position within a technically strong, close-knit engineering environment.
Role Overview
The Simulator Engineer – Shift Lead will be responsible for the day-to-day running and proactive maintenance of up to four commercial Full Flight Simulators (FFS). Acting as the technical and operational lead during their shift, the successful candidate will oversee maintenance activity, support junior technicians, and act as a key interface with flight crews and instructors.
This role suits an experienced Simulator Technician who has already taken on informal or “acting lead” responsibilities and is now ready to formalise that step.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational
Perform preventive and routine maintenance on Full Flight Simulators and associated systems Lead fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance activities Carry out visual alignments, calibrations, and secondary technical duties Review, check, and mark up Qualification Test Guide (QTG) results Conduct workshop repairs including soldering and crimping Manage logistics activities including parts receipt, repair coordination, testing, and validation Accurately record and track maintenance activity using the maintenance management system
Leadership & Team Support
Act as the primary technical and leadership point of contact during the shift Provide guidance, training, and support to junior Simulator Technicians Take ownership of shift activity and ensure effective task prioritisation Maintain clear communication with Flight Crews and Instructor Pilots
Compliance, Safety & Quality
Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with regulatory and company procedures Identify and report hazards, risks, or non-compliances to the Maintenance Manager Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and procedures Comply with the company Safety Management System and Health & Safety requirements Produce RAMS for non-routine or unique tasks Ensure adherence to risk assessments, COSHH, and Lockout/Tagout procedures Maintain compliance with the QSL Quality Management System Be familiar with Part ORA and CS-FSTD(A) regulatory requirements
Additional Responsibilities
Carry out housekeeping duties to maintain simulator environments Complete administrative tasks as required Support ad hoc building maintenance activities when necessary
Working Pattern
4 on / 4 off shift rotation Shifts may consist of days, nights, or a combination (e.g. 2 days / 2 nights) Role supports a 24/7 operation, requiring flexibility
Essential Knowledge & Experience
Strong fault-finding and corrective maintenance capability Working knowledge of: Hydraulic motion systems Electrical motion systems Control loading systems Simulator visual systems Experience with simulator hardware repair and diagnostics Knowledge of simulation software systems Proven track record of completing preventative and routine maintenance Experience running and checking QTG schedules
Desirable Experience
Experience on Boeing and/or Airbus simulators, particularly B737 and A320 Exposure to CAE, FSI, Sim Industries, TRU, or L3 devices Previous leadership, shift lead, or acting-lead experience Customer-facing or client support background Strong electrical, electronic, or avionic systems knowledge
Qualifications (Desirable)
HNC / HND in an aircraft-related discipline HNC / HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
