THE ROLE
You'll lead site installations from technical handover through to final commissioning, managing a junior engineer and coordinating with our project management and design teams.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll be on-site, solving problems, managing installations, liaising with clients and trades, and ensuring every project meets our exacting standards.
Your responsibilities:
* Lead on-site installation of complex home automation systems (Control4, Lutron, Crestron, networking, AV)
* Manage and mentor a junior engineer working alongside you
* Coordinate with electricians, HVAC installers, builders, landscape gardeners, interior designers, and other trades
* Communicate directly with clients and their representatives, maintaining professional relationships
* Report to project managers on progress, challenges, and requirements
* Work with our design team to ensure documentation remains accurate and up-to-date
* Problem-solve in real-time as projects evolve on-site
* Commission systems and ensure flawless handover
* Maintain the quality standards Homeplay is known for
* Represent Homeplay professionally at all times on client sites
Typical projects: Multi-room Control4 or Crestron systems, Lutron lighting and shading, distributed AV, network infrastructure, climate control integration. Projects range from £100k to over £1 million, with most current projects in £2-500k range.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential experience:
* Minimum 5 years in home automation installation
* Deep practical knowledge of Control4, Lutron, and/or Crestron systems
* Strong networking expertise (structured cabling, rack builds, IP configuration)
* Experience with AV distribution, speakers, displays, and related equipment
* Proven ability to lead installations and manage site logistics
Professional capabilities:
* Confident communicating with high-net-worth clients and their representatives
* Able to coordinate effectively with multiple trades on complex sites
* Strong problem-solving skills: you can think on your feet when plans change
* Meticulous attention to detail and quality
* Self-motivated and organized
* Comfortable reporting progress and flagging issues proactively
* Team leadership: able to guide and develop junior engineers
Desirable:
* Experience with lighting control systems (Lutron Homeworks, DALI)
* Knowledge of Ubiquiti Unifi or similar enterprise networking
* Familiarity with home cinema and dedicated listening rooms
* Full UK driving licence (essential)
LOCATION & TRAVEL
Based from our showroom in Sunbury-on-Thames, with projects primarily across the Home Counties and South East. Daily travel to site locations is required. Some occasional international travel may be required.
What We Offer:
Salary: £43,000-£47,000 depending on experience
