Senior Systems Engineer - EMS (Electromechanical Systems)
Denham
Martin-Baker is the world’s leading manufacturer of ejection and crashworthy seats, saving over 7,805 lives to date. We combine cutting-edge engineering with a clear mission: protecting aircrew around the world.
We are now recruiting a Senior Systems Engineer to join our established Systems Engineering team at our Denham site.
The Role:
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead complex analytical engineering activities across the full product lifecycle — from concept and development through to production and verification. You will be responsible for maintaining system requirements, conducting in-depth analyses, supporting system verification, and producing highly technical documentation required for internal, customer, and contractual purposes.
This role also includes technical leadership responsibilities, supporting the Systems Engineering team in delivery, capability development, and engineering quality. You will act as a team lead, mentoring engineers, guiding technical approaches, and helping ensure consistency and excellence across outputs.
You will also gain exposure to highly complex electromechanical systems (EMS) within safety-critical ejection seat architectures, alongside multidisciplinary system-of-systems engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and coordinate systems engineering activities within assigned work packages and support prioritisation of team workload
* Conduct system requirements analysis and generate detailed system specifications
* Prepare highly complex technical documentation for internal, customer, and contractual use
* Perform feasibility studies and trade-off analyses to support new and existing programmes
* Carry out physiological load assessments as required
* Conduct simulations, analyses, and test correlation activities using appropriate software tools
* Develop and enhance simulation models and advanced analytical methods for complex electromechanical systems (EMS)
* Support the design, integration, and verification of electromechanical systems, ensuring functional, safety, and performance requirements are met across the product lifecycle
* Design and develop software, including safety-critical applications, supporting system-level behaviour of EMS and related subsystems
* Support system verification and validation activities across development and qualification programmes
* Act as a technical mentor and team lead, supporting junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance, review, and coaching
* Drive engineering quality, consistency, and best practice across the Systems Engineering team
* Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including customers and regulatory bodies
* Participate in IPT meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations
* Travel within the UK and overseas as required
About You:
We are looking for highly capable, analytical, and motivated engineers with a passion for complex systems, particularly within safety-critical aerospace and electromechanical systems (EMS) environments.
Essential:
* Degree (2:1 or above) in engineering, science, or a related discipline
* Extensive experience in aerospace or equivalent systems engineering environments
* Proven ability to lead or influence technical teams in a systems engineering context
* Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering principles
* Experience producing complex technical documentation
* Understanding of software development and systems modelling
* Strong communication skills with experience engaging senior stakeholders
* Innovative problem-solving ability with strong analytical skills
* Highly IT literate
* Experience mentoring or supporting engineers in a team lead capacity
Desirable:
* Understanding of UML and/or SysML
* Experience developing simulation models, particularly for electromechanical systems (EMS)
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
* Previous formal technical leadership or team leadership responsibility
