Job Description
This respected, employee‑owned planning consultancy is actively involved in shaping strategic plans for over 150,000 new homes across the UK. Working with a diverse client base that includes leading master developers, blue‑chip organisations, landowners, Government bodies, and local authorities, the studio delivers planning solutions across a wide geographical spread and a broad range of complex planning challenges. The practice is known for its collaborative and outcome‑driven approach, combining strong planning advocacy with consensus‑building and strategic thinking. Senior Town Planners are given the opportunity to work across a varied project portfolio, avoiding narrow specialisms or pigeonholing, while playing a key role in shaping spatial strategies that deliver high‑quality, sustainable places and long‑term value.
Role Overview
The Senior Town Planner will work closely with experienced masterplanning, urban design, mapping, and graphic communications teams, contributing strategic insight and leadership across major projects. The role offers a strong balance of collaboration and autonomy, allowing individuals to take ownership of projects, manage client relationships, and apply their professional judgement, creativity, and problem‑solving skills to deliver successful planning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and contributing to strategic and spatial planning projects
- Preparing and managing planning applications, negotiations, and representations
- Working closely with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities to secure consents
- Supporting masterplanning and place-making initiatives
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and acting as trusted advisors
- Mentoring junior team members and contributing to knowledge sharing
Requirements
We're looking for planners with experience in either the private or public sector, who have demonstrable and transferable skills particularly within the following areas:
- Preparation and negotiation of development proposals (particularly residential-led and/or commercial/mixed use planning applications)
- Negotiating planning permissions, conditions and s106 agreements
- Policy and plan-making activity
- Shaping promotion strategies for development projects
- Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams and to help co-ordinate design and engineering outputs to put development on the ground
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary in the region of £50,000 to £60,000, depending on experience
- Hybrid working arrangements
- Generous annual leave allowance, with additional long‑service leave
- Excellent pension scheme
- Mobility allowance
- Discretionary performance‑related bonus
- Employee Ownership Trust, with an annual Trust Award recognising each individual’s stake in the business
- Fully funded professional subscriptions, training, and a strong commitment to CPD and long‑term career development
- Company‑wide study trips, often overseas, alongside annual away days and a variety of social, cultural, and sporting activities
- A collaborative, people‑focused culture with additional benefits available
