Senior Town Planner

New Today

Job Description

£45,000 – £50,000 | Full-time | Camden | Hybrid working

Want to work with architects to shape the design and solve planning challenges?

Are you an experienced Senior Town Planner, or a Town Planner ready to step up to Senior level, looking for a new challenge?

If you enjoy working collaboratively with architects, taking ownership of projects, and being involved from early ideas through to consent and delivery, this could be the role for you. You will play an active part in shaping schemes, tackling real planning challenges and broadening your project experience day-to-day.

About us

UPP Architects + Town Planners is an integrated architecture and planning consultancy based in Camden. We work with developers, landowners and organisations across London and the South East on residential, mixed-use, community and leisure projects, from early feasibility through to construction.

Our planners and architects work side-by-side, allowing planning strategy to inform design from the outset rather than after it is fixed. As a planner at UPP you will be hands-on in projects, able to influence design and outcomes, and remain involved as schemes progress from concept to completed buildings.

The role

  • Reviewing sites and undertaking planning appraisals to establish development potential

  • Researching planning policy and decision context to help define planning strategy and project brief

  • Participating in design workshops with architects

  • Preparing and managing planning applications, pre-applications and appeals

  • Liaising with clients, consultants and planning officers

  • Coordinating the consultant team and managing submissions

  • Attending meetings and committee (where appropriate)

Skills and experience

  • Consultancy or local authority planning experience

  • MRTPI (or working towards submission) preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Confident liaising with officers and clients

  • Good organisational and time management ability

  • Collaborative and practical approach to projects

Why join us

  • Direct involvement in projects from early stages through to construction

  • Opportunity to see projects you worked on come forward and be built

  • Close collaboration with architects in-house

  • Varied London-based work

  • Supportive team environment with clear progression

  • Hybrid working – typically 2–3 days per week from home

  • Flexible and friendly working culture

Benefits

  • Early finish on Fridays (4pm)

  • 23 days annual leave + bank holidays (increasing with service)

  • Hybrid working

  • Paid professional memberships (RTPI)

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • Workplace pension

  • CPD and professional development

If this sounds like the kind of role you’ve been looking for, we’d love to hear from you — please apply with your CV (and a short writing sample if available).
