TRANSPORT MANAGER CARDIFF/BARRYJob Title: Senior Transport ManagerSalary: £competitiveHours of work:Typically, Monday Friday with flexibility required (early starts, occasional weekend calls regarding driver issues). Benefits: 25 days holiday, day off on your birthday, pension, Westfield health, car parking.Job PurposeTo oversee and manage the daily transport operations of the waste and recycling fleet, ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective collection, transfer and disposal of materials. The role ensures adherence to all legal, environmental and safety regulations while maintaining high service standards. Key responsibilitiesThe overall management of the Transport department in line with the company growth plans. Manage the day-to-day operations of the transport fleet which is a diverse fleet of RO/RO, skips, tankers, hook lift trailers and curtain siders. Working with the Transport Planner, optimise collection routes to maximise efficiency and minimise costs. Ensure vehicle availability through effective scheduling of maintenance and repairs.Monitoring fuel usage, vehicle performance and operational KPIs. Planning vehicle and fleet requirements in line with the growth of the companyRepresenting the Company where engagement with DVSA, Traffic Commissioner etc is required.Maintain FORS accreditation on an annual basis. Monitoring, recording and submitting digital tachograph data in line with industry norms.Reviewing the monthly transport P&L financial report. Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.Compliance & legal requirementsEnsuing full compliance with transport legislation, including Operator Licence requirements. Oversee driver compliance with working time regulations and tachograph rules. Maintain accurate transport records, inspections and documentation.Ensure adherence to environmental and waste handling regulations.Health and safety and environment.Promote a strong health and safety culture across all transport operations. Ensure all risk assessments, safe systems of work and toolbox talks are implemented. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions. Conducting meetings/toolbox talks with the Planner and/or drivers to encourage feedback and to share new ideas in a consistent manner.Team managementLead, manage and develop drivers and transport staff.Conduct performance reviews, training and disciplinary procedures where necessary. Instrumental in the recruiting of drivers working alongside HR Manager. Conducting daily debriefing to all drivers in the absence of the Transport Planner. Ensuring that the vehicles are prepared at all times for any unscheduled checks and inspection by Directors or any representative of a regulatory authority.QualificationsEducated to a good standard in Mathematics and EnglishCPC in transport management preferred.Experience/skills/knowledgePrevious experience in a transport management role, ideally within waste/recycling or logistics. Experienced in transport routing and maintenance scheduling.Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance. Experience managing fleets and drivers. Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.Strong leadership and communication abilities.Commercially minded.Working for an ambitious growing company which can be demonstrated through past employment history.Computer and IT literate.
