Senior Transport Planner / Principal Transport Planner\n\nPermanent | Leeds or Newcastle | Hybrid Working\n\nThe Opportunity\n\nWe are working in partnership with a leading international consultancy to recruit a Senior Transport Planner or Principal Transport Planner for their established Transport North team, based in either Leeds or Newcastle. The role offers hybrid working, combining office-based collaboration with home working flexibility.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity to join a consultancy recognised for delivering high-quality, sustainable and resilient transport solutions, combining global expertise with strong local delivery. You will be part of a well-established and supportive team working on a broad range of development-led and public-sector transport planning projects across the North of England.\n\nThe Role\n\nThe successful candidate will play a key role in delivering development-related transport planning advice, supporting planning applications and infrastructure-led growth across a diverse client base.\n\nProjects typically involve working for housing and commercial developers, local authorities, highway authorities, architects, planners and other professional advisors.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nPreparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans\nAuthoring transport chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)\nProducing a range of development-related transport reports to support planning submissions\nCollecting, analysing and interpreting transport data\nApplying highway design principles to support site access and layout design\nUndertaking site visits and attending client, stakeholder and authority meetings\nMentoring and supporting junior members of the transport planning team\nAssisting with client liaison and work-winning, including preparing fee proposals\nStaying up to date with current guidance, standards and best practice within transport planning\nFull day-to-day support will be provided by experienced transport planning professionals, alongside clear opportunities for progression.\n\nSkills & Experience\n\nWe are seeking a motivated and versatile individual with several years' experience in UK transport planning consultancy, ideally including:\n\nProven experience producing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans\nStrong analytical skills with experience collating and interpreting data\nKnowledge of highway design principles relevant to development access\nWorking knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS software\nExperience using industry-standard tools such as TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions, LinSig and TRANSYT\nStrong report-writing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel\nA good understanding of the UK planning process\nSome experience developing and maintaining client relationships would be advantageous\nPersonal Attributes\n\nProactive, driven and keen to progress within transport consultancy\nConfident communicator, comfortable liaising with clients and multidisciplinary teams\nMethodical approach with strong attention to detail\nAbility to produce clear, concise and well-structured technical outputs\nCollaborative mindset and enthusiasm for team-based project delivery\nQualifications (Preferred)\n\nDegree or Master's in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline\nProgress toward or achievement of professional accreditation (e.g.
