Job Description
Senior / Principal Transport Planner\nBirmingham or Newcastle (flexible working)\n£45,000 – £55,000 + benefits\n\nI’m working with a growing, independent transport planning consultancy that is looking to appoint either a Senior or Principal Transport Planner as part of its continued expansion.\n\nThis consultancy delivers practical, sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions across the UK and is known for its collaborative culture, technical strength, and long-term career development opportunities. The role can be based in Birmingham or Newcastle, with flexibility around hybrid and alternative working arrangements.\n\nThe Role\n\nDepending on level, you’ll play a key role in leading and delivering transport planning projects, supporting clients through the planning process, and contributing to the growth of the team.\n\nKey responsibilities may include:\n\nLeading Transport Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans\nDelivering and overseeing junction modelling (ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig – TRANSYT/AIMSUN a bonus)\nProviding technical review and quality assurance on reports\nEngaging with clients, local authorities, and key stakeholders\nMentoring junior staff and supporting professional development\nSupporting business development and project managementWhat They’re Looking For\n\nSenior level: typically, 4–5+ years’ consultancy experience\nPrincipal level: typically, 7+ years’ consultancy experience\nStrong knowledge of UK transport policy, guidance, and planning processes\nProficiency in TRICS, ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig (TRANSYT/AIMSUN advantageous)\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nDegree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or similar\nA proactive, self-motivated approach with confidence working independentlyWhat’s on Offer\n\nCompetitive salary (£45k–£55k depending on level)\nFlexible and hybrid working options\nSupportive team culture with clear progression routes\nStructured CPD and professional development support\nExposure to varied, high-profile projects nationwideIf you’re a Senior or Principal Transport Planner considering your next move and want to work somewhere that genuinely values technical quality and career development, please apply
