Making a visible impact on safety and compliance
We are recruiting Site Assurance Managers at Northern Gas Networks (NGN), playing a key role in the safe, compliant delivery of capital projects to NGN standards.
As a Site Assurance Manager, you will provide on?site assurance that works are delivered in line with business requirements, relevant safety, health and environmental legislation, and NGN policies and procedures. The role focuses on overseeing delivery by the main works contractor, ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with NGN’s suite of specifications.
You will be responsible for the collation and management of daily site records to support both safety and commercial requirements. This will include detailed narratives, quantities and photographic evidence, with records uploaded and maintained on internal systems on a weekly basis to ensure accurate, auditable project information.
A full UK driving licence is essential. The role involves travel across NGN’s operational area, including major cities such as Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, York, Hull, and Bradford, as well as rural regions like North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
In this role you will
Support the Senior Project Manager and Project Engineer to ensure schemes are delivered in line with business requirements
Promote and maintain a strong safety and environmental culture across the project team and site activities, ensuring compliance with NGN Process Safety procedures
Support planning, coordination, compliance and delivery of works through the Main Works Contractor, maintaining a consistent on?site presence and a strong 'don’t walk by' culture
Review, challenge and formally accept or reject RAMS and Contractor Daily Allocation Sheets, professionally challenging contractor safety and technical performance where required
Contribute to the development of contract strategies and project designs, including input to Formal Safety Assessments and participation in HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON and HAZDEM reviews
Coordinate the timely preparation of permit documentation to align with project programmes and timescales
Carry out site safety tours, audits and inspections in line with the Capital Project Team audit plan
Maintain accurate project controls, including tracking delays, monitoring materials leaving site, and supporting the production of technical reports
We are looking for
Educated to HNC / NVQ Level 4 or equivalent, or able to demonstrate equivalent competence through experience
Holds relevant safety qualifications, including EUSR SHEA Gas and Safe Control of Operations (SCO) 1 & 2
Demonstrates technical knowledge and experience in planning and delivering high?risk works, including working at height, lifting operations, confined spaces, hazardous waste (including asbestos and coal gas waste), and hot works (demolition qualification desirable but not essential)
Strong understanding of relevant safety, health and environmental legislation, NGN policies and procedures associated with high?risk activities
Proven ability to lead, influence and negotiate effectively, building strong working relationships with NGN colleagues and main works contractor staff at all levels
Customer?focused with excellent communication skills, able to support, challenge and engage stakeholders professionally
Experience in carrying out EH&S audits and inspections, with the ability to influence continuous improvement across the workforce
Desirable
Holds, or is working towards, relevant demolition, supervisory and safety qualifications, including NFDC Demolition Supervisor, NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent), MAP test, CDM 2015, Temporary Works and asbestos awareness
Trained and competent in high?risk activities including working at height, confined spaces, lifting operations, underground asset detection, COSHH and waste handling, fire control and first aid
