Job Title: Site Engineer – BB Multi Utilities

Location: Coventry – HS2 Project

Contract: 3 Months PAYE, 45 hours per week


Randstad Sourceright are recruiting on behalf of Balfour Beatty for an experienced Site Engineer – Multi Utilities to join the team on the prestigious High Speed 2 (HS2) project in Coventry.


This is an exciting opportunity to work within a Tier One contractor environment on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, playing a key role in the accurate delivery of civil engineering and multi-utility works — with a strong emphasis on technical setting out excellence.


Key Responsibilities


  • Carry out precise and accurate setting out for civil engineering and utility works using modern surveying equipment.
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications, and required tolerances.
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and highway standards.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks, inspections, and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Produce and maintain accurate as-built surveys and site records.
  • Coordinate works around multi-utility installations (gas, water, power, communications).
  • Liaise effectively with site management, subcontractors, designers, and client representatives.
  • Support programme delivery through proactive planning and sequencing of works.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Mentor and support BBMU apprentices and graduate engineers where required.


Candidate Profile


Essential:


  • Demonstrable experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering or infrastructure projects (Tier One contractor experience preferred).
  • High-level competence in setting out, including use of:
  • GPS survey equipment
  • Pipe Laser
  • Proven experience in highway drainage and foul drainage installation.
  • Strong understanding of highway specifications and technical standards.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive, professional approach to safety and quality.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Desirable:


  • Experience coordinating multi-utility installations (gas, water, power, communications).
  • HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
