Solicitor – Family Law

Job Purpose of the Solicitor
To provide expert legal advice, representation, and case management in all areas of
family law, ensuring excellent client care and compliance with professional standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Solicitor
Client Representation & Case Management
• Advise and represent clients in matters such as divorce, child arrangements,
domestic abuse, financial remedies, and other family law cases.
• Prepare and manage cases from initial instruction to conclusion.
• Keep clients informed throughout proceedings and provide clear guidance.
• Liaise with clients, experts, barristers, and third parties.

Court & Advocacy Work
• Attend and represent clients at court hearings, including Family Court and, where appropriate, higher courts.
• Conduct advocacy or prepare for counsel-led hearings.
• Prepare and present documents and case bundles in court.

Document Preparation & Legal Aid
• Draft statements, applications, affidavits, and correspondence.
• Prepare court bundles and manage disclosure.
• Handle legal aid applications and ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Research & Compliance
• Keep up to date with family law legislation, case law, and procedural rules.
• Ensure compliance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements.
• Maintain professional standards and confidentiality.

Team & Supervision
• Supervise, guide, and delegate tasks to family law paralegals and trainee solicitors.
• Review paralegal-prepared documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Foster a collaborative team environment and provide constructive feedback.

Person Specification for the Solicitor
Qualifications & Experience
• Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate.
• Child Panel accredited
• Experience in family law practice, including representation in court.
• Knowledge of legal aid procedures and funding (advantageous).
• Experience supervising or mentoring paralegals (desirable).

Skills needed for the Solicitor
• Strong client care and advocacy skills.

• Ability to manage a caseload and work to deadlines.
