Project Specification Manager

Location: North of UK


The Role


We are recruiting for a Project Specification Manager to play a pivotal role in driving long-term, sustainable business growth through the acquisition and management of large, complex construction projects.


This is a strategic and consultative position, focused on securing and developing high-value, end-to-end project opportunities. You will work directly with building owners and key specifiers, adopting a relationship-led approach to build a strong pipeline of longer-term projects while ensuring exceptional standards of specification, quality, and delivery throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Project Acquisition & Growth


  • Develop and maintain strong, consultative relationships with building owners and key specifiers to fully understand their long-term objectives and challenges
  • Proactively identify, generate, and nurture large, strategic project opportunities through regular face-to-face engagement
  • Drive specification-led sales by securing the inclusion of comprehensive, end-to-end solutions that deliver maximum value to clients


Project Leadership & Specification Management


  • Lead large, complex projects from early design stages through to completion
  • Manage and protect the integrity of project specifications, including the effective use of specification guarantees
  • Conduct critical site visits to ensure adherence to design intent, quality standards, and safety protocols
  • Act as a key point of coordination between internal teams (technical, operations, product development) to ensure seamless project support

To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong understanding of the construction project lifecycle, a consultative mindset, and experience supporting or managing complex, project-based opportunities.


Essential Skills & Competencies


Strategic & Commercial Acumen


  • Good commercial awareness, including project costs, long-term value, and profitability
  • Understanding of the construction lifecycle from design and specification through procurement and build
  • Knowledge of the construction value chain and key decision-makers
  • Ability to identify and escalate commercial or technical risks


Consultative Selling & Relationship Management


  • Proven ability to engage specifiers and building owners using a consultative sales approach
  • Strong influencing, persuasion, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining long-term professional relationships
  • Experience working cross-functionally to deliver optimal client outcomes


Project & Technical Expertise


  • Experience managing or supporting the specification of complex, performance-driven solutions
  • Solid technical understanding within the construction or building materials sector
  • Basic contractual awareness relating to large construction projects
  • Strong understanding of site safety requirements and best practices

Experience & Qualifications


  • Experience in project-based sales, specification, technical sales, or project support within construction, building materials, or a related industry
  • Proven exposure to working with building owners, developers, architects, or consulting engineers
  • Experience or exposure to solution-based or specification-led selling
  • Confident user of CRM systems for pipeline management and reporting
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)


Package:


Basic Salary – Upto £60k + £20K OTE
