Are you passionate about helping children communicate, connect and thrive? A welcoming and well-resourced specialist school is seeking a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), many of whom are non-verbal.
About the Role
In this highly supportive, structured environment, you will:
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and emotional security
Support pupils who are primarily non-verbal using communication approaches such as PECS, visuals, AAC, gestures and modelling
Assist the class teacher in delivering a curriculum tailored to pupils’ individual needs
Promote pupils’ independence, social interaction and communication skills
Support both one-to-one and small-group learning
Create a calm, nurturing space where pupils can explore, learn and communicate at their own pace
Work closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff
About You
We would love to hear from you if you:
Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism or SLCN (desirable but not essential)
Are patient, resilient and nurturing in your approach
Can build positive relationships with pupils who may communicate non-verbally
Are comfortable using structured routines, visual supports and sensory-friendly approaches
Work well as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
Are passionate about ensuring every child feels safe, valued and understood
