COBIS is looking to appoint a Student Engagement and Events Officer (maternity cover) to join the team from October 2025 to lead on delivery and management of an exciting calendar of global student activities and competitions for schools worldwide. Job Purpose:
To project manage the design and delivery of the exciting and diverse calendar of international COBIS student events, bringing together young people from across the globe. The COBIS Student Engagement Programme includes online, hybrid and face-to-face events and competitions delivered internally, with host schools, and with external partners. The role will take on a variety of duties to ensure COBIS’ student offer runs smoothly and successfully, with high levels of engagement, meeting the needs of member schools. The COBIS student offer currently includes:
- Competitions enabling students to share their creative talents in areas such art, drama, music and poetry on a global stage
- Challenges in key skills such as debating, maths, leadership and more
- Co-curricular achievement opportunities including student leadership, arts, sports and esports competitions
- Opportunities for students to feel part of a wider global community, develop international-mindedness, and prepare for life after school.
COBIS Student Events and Competitions Responsibilities:
- To effectively project manage the full portfolio of student competitions and events. To deliver, develop and evaluate a diverse programme of student events and competitions.
- To liaise directly with host schools, participating schools, delivery partners, internal and external stakeholders and sponsors.
- To identify new opportunities for engaging students globally and develop a mixed portfolio of student events using a blend of delivery and business models (online/face to face, internally organised, externally commissioned, etc).
- To manage the promotion of COBIS student events and competitions in collaboration with the Communications team.
- To manage the student section of the COBIS website, keeping it up to date with information regarding each competition/event.
- To manage the review of proposals, creation/review of contracts/agreements and commissioning of services as required in collaboration with the Deputy CEO and COO.
- As the nominated point of contact, respond to enquiries relating to student events and competitions and brief the other Head Office staff on this work stream.
- To work with the Membership Team to identify potential partners and sponsors for student competitions from existing Supporting Associates.
- To undertake regular consultation with member and non-member schools to determine the key content areas/agendas for student competitions/events.
- To manage the delivery and administration of the COBIS Student Council.
- To develop and strengthen relationships and partnerships with other associations and partners in relation to student events and student engagement.
- To work with the Membership Team to engage target non-member schools with COBIS student events and competitions as part of the growth strategy.
- To work with the Finance Team to coordinate invoices, payments, and forecasting for current and future events.
- Be responsible for ensuring that all areas of work practice reflect compliance in relation to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and associated good practice.
Relationship Management and Customer Service Responsibilities:
- Represent COBIS with a high level of professional credibility at internal and external meetings and events, in the UK and potentially overseas.
- Provide outstanding customer service at all times, including responding to enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Actively promote and support the COBIS commitment to safeguarding, child protection and the welfare of children, young people and adults
- Maintain a working environment in which equity, inclusivity and diversity is respected and responded to, and equality of opportunity is promoted
- Ensure a positive image to customers and other individuals and organisations, and promote the COBIS brand, activities and services by whatever means are appropriate and available.
- Attend the COBIS Annual Conference in London, in May and provide support as required
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Strong administration and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent ICT skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with confidence, and the ability to learn new digital platforms (with training).
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience building positive relationships and providing outstanding customer service
- Demonstrate accuracy and clarity in all written and verbal communications.
- Relevant work experience and experience of planning and delivering multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to work effectively with a range of stakeholders within the education sector.
- Proven ability to prioritise and manage time effectively and be able to adapt and respond flexibly to the unexpected.
- Able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Committed to safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and to engage in associated continual professional development in this area. Training will be provided.
- Able to work as part of a team but also comfortable to work alone and proactively manage own workload in a fast-paced environment.
- A fast learner who is able to quickly pick up and apply knowledge and skills.
·Educated to degree level or equivalent.
·A general understanding and experience working within the UK and/or international education sectors.
·Previous experience in a comparable events or student engagement role.
·Previous experience of project management.
Renumeration and Conditions of Service
- The maternity cover post is available from October 2025.
- Salary package is £39,500 per annum. The position is considered a full-time position. Significant part-time (e.g. four days/week) will also be considered
- Working hours/days are 9:00-5:00 with a half-hour for lunch, but flexibility around hours would be considered.
- Hybrid/remote working with a flexible working policy
- The candidate will be required to attend the COBIS Annual Conference and Committee meetings which take place over 4 days in London in May
- Holiday entitlement of 25 days (pro rata) plus statutory bank holidays
- Access to pension scheme in line with pension regulations. COBIS employee pension contribution is at 5% of salar y

- Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK
COBIS Safer Recruitment Procedure
Candidates must be willing to undertake a safer recruitment check. If appropriate to the role, a DBS check will be requested if an applicant is offered a contract of employment. All COBIS staff are required to undertake safeguarding training.

Place of Work
COBIS staff currently work predominantly remotely, with some working days in the COBIS Head Office and other locations. This is expected to be a hybrid role, predominantly home working, with the option to work in the Head Office and the expectation that some team meetings and events will be office based. The contractual place of work for the Student Engagement and Events Officer will be the COBIS Head Office. The office is currently located in: Russell Square, Bloomsbury in Central London.
