Studio Design Manager

Responsibilities
Lead and develop the in‑house Graphics Team, overseeing creative output, workload planning and performance management.
Allocate and prioritise studio workload to ensure projects are delivered efficiently against deadlines and budgets.
Work collaboratively with Buying Teams to develop new product and packaging concepts, including licensed ranges.
Arrange and manage freelance or external creative support during peak trading periods.
Research and interpret market and design trends across customer demographics to inform original and commercially relevant product development.
Plan and manage critical paths, ensuring alignment with buying and launch schedules.
Mentor Designers and Creative Artworkers to support continuous professional development and succession planning.
Monitor project lead times and control design costs to prevent overruns.
Maintain confidentiality and information governance standards in line with GDPR requirements, including accurate record‑keeping systems.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal studio systems, workflows and best practice.
Ensure product ranges remain current and competitive through ongoing market and trend awareness.
Undertake additional duties appropriate to the level and scope of the role.
Qualifications
Proven experience leading or managing a design or creative team.
A minimum of three years’ experience at Senior Designer or Senior Creative Artworker level, ideally within retail packaging or product design.
Experience working with licensed product ranges is advantageous.
Experience commissioning illustration and photography is desirable.
Degree in Design or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Strong organisational, leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
High level of commercial awareness, balancing creative quality with cost control and delivery deadlines.
Genuine passion for packaging and product design, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced retail environment.
Confident, professional and positive approach with the ability to motivate and develop others.
Creative flair combined with practical problem‑solving ability and adaptability.
