The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Sub-Agent to join a major heavy civil engineering project based near Bridgwater. The initial phase will roll on until October 2026 with the potential to move onto other sections of the project at this stage. A fantastic long-term opportunity for a contractor seeking stability on a flagship infrastructure scheme. This large-scale project spans multiple work packages, offering real variety and technical complexity throughout.
The Project
The scheme involves a wide range of heavy civil engineering elements, including:
Sheet piling works Major earthworks River diversions and realignments Bridges and Culverts This is a challenging and fast-paced environment, ideal for someone who thrives on complex engineering delivery.
The Role
As Sub-Agent, you will take responsibility for managing sections of the works, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery in line with programme requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and coordinating site teams and engineers Overseeing daily site operations and progress Ensuring quality assurance and compliance with specifications Managing Health & Safety on site Planning and short-term programming of works Liaising with subcontractors and stakeholders Contributing to site meetings and reporting progress Supporting commercial and cost control aspects where required All necessary equipment will be provided by the client.
About You
We are seeking experienced Sub-Agents or Senior Engineers ready to step up, with a strong background in heavy civils. Suitable experience may include:
Major highways or infrastructure projects Reinforced concrete structures (bridges, viaducts, etc.) Water or wastewater treatment works Flood alleviation or river works Large-scale earthworks You will also bring:
BASED WITHIN ONE HOUR OF BRIDGWATER A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering Proven experience delivering heavy civil engineering schemes Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills The ability to commute to the Bridgwater area Full UK driving licence Right to live and work in the UK Rate & Package
£360 – £380 per day (plus holiday pay), depending on experience Long-term contract on a major infrastructure project All site equipment provided Interested?
