A leading UK legal firm is seeking a Tax Compliance Manager to join its top-tier Private Wealth & Tax team in Edinburgh. This is a strong leadership opportunity within one of Scotlands most highly respected private client practices, supporting high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates while overseeing a skilled compliance team.
Youll manage a broad portfolio, provide clear and pragmatic tax guidance, and work closely with legal and advisory specialists across the firm. The role blends hands-on technical work with team leadership and client management, helping maintain the teams reputation for exceptional service and practical, commercially minded advice.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Tax Compliance Team, supervising three assistants and ensuring timely, accurate delivery of all work.
- Review personal tax compliance across individuals, trusts, estates and charities, maintaining high technical standards.
- Provide clear, expert advice on tax returns, liabilities, claims and elections.
- Ensure all submissions to HMRC meet statutory deadlines through strong controls and efficient processes.
- Work closely with senior tax leaders to manage workflow and maintain a smooth compliance operation.
- Oversee capital gains tax reporting for residential property transactions.
- Build strong client relationships, explaining complex issues simply and supporting clients through sensitive matters.
- Manage billing processes and ensure effective use of internal systems.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Support wider team initiatives, knowledge sharing and occasional business development.
About You
You will be a tax professional with strong personal tax compliance expertise, ideally gained within an accountancy practice, professional services firm or private client environment.
Essential Experience
- Recent tax compliance experience, ideally including trusts and estates.
- Experience advising clients on tax returns and tax liabilities.
- Familiarity with tax software and HMRC online systems.
- Strong organisation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
- Ability to build strong relationships with high-value private clients.
- Excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy.
- A proactive mindset with an interest in expanding technical tax knowledge.
