Teaching Assistant - SEN Schools (Start ASAP)
East Kent & Surrounding Areas

Are you a Teaching Assistant currently working in a mainstream school and ready for a new, rewarding challenge in SEN?

Academics are working with a number of specialist SEN schools across East Kent who are looking to recruit Teaching Assistants immediately. These schools support pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC), SEMH, ADHD, and associated learning difficulties.

Many of our partner schools are keen to speak with mainstream Teaching Assistants who are open to transitioning into specialist education and developing their SEN experience.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant in a specialist setting, you will support pupils both academically and emotionally. Responsibilities typically include:

Assisting pupils with additional learning and behavioural needs

Supporting teachers to deliver adapted and engaging lessons

Helping pupils with emotional regulation and social development

Providing 1:1 or small group support where needed

Working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams

Why Move Into an SEN School?

Teaching Assistants moving from mainstream into specialist settings often highlight:

Smaller class sizes, allowing more meaningful support

Better staff-to-pupil ratios, meaning more support for you too

Greater focus on individual progress and wellbeing

Opportunities to work with therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches

A highly rewarding environment where you can see the real impact of your support

Why Use Academics?

Immediate access to roles across multiple SEN schools

We know the schools and can match you to the right setting quickly

Support with applications, CVs, and interview preparation

Confidential discussions if you are curious but not yet ready to apply

If you are a mainstream Teaching Assistant looking for a move into SEN and can start ASAP, we want to hear from you.
