Role Overview As a Team Manager in Food, you’ll lead a shop floor team to deliver exceptional availability, 5‑star service and commercial results. This frontline role drives the future of M&S Food and supports the retail plan and KPI achievement. Responsibilities
Lead and coach a team to consistently perform under pressure, setting standards and holding the line. Own sales, standards, availability and team performance, taking accountability when plans deviate. Collaborate across departments to ensure a seamless customer experience, addressing issues promptly. Drive commercial performance by interpreting numbers, translating action plans and focusing the team on key metrics. Deliver excellent standards and service, setting clear expectations and embedding the retail plan. Shape and promote a culture that models new digital ways of working and leadership behaviours. Build a multi‑skilled team, coaching and training to fully utilise available tools. Use data insights to improve the in‑store customer experience and operational performance. Recruit, onboard and develop talent, ensuring a strong succession pipeline. Maintain a safe, legal store environment and support visual merchandising updates.
Key Accountabilities
Drive profitability and sales, supporting the Retail Plan and Store KPIs. Embed business transformation and change initiatives. Deliver high standards and service, setting clear expectations. Create the right culture, modelling digital work and leadership behaviours. Build a multi‑skilled team and optimise utilisation of tools. Deliver operational excellence to maximise availability and minimise loss. Track individual performance and manage underperformance. Maintain a safe, legal store environment.
Technical Skills & Experience
Leadership and delivery of customer service and KPIs. Strong commercial acumen and understanding of retail visual, operational and people processes. Data‑driven decision making, using MI to spot opportunities. Knowledge of VM principles and digital systems. Knowledge of legal requirements and people policies. Effective communication, coaching and conflict resolution. Ability to plan, review and deliver under pressure. Relationship building with stakeholders across store and region.
