Job Summary:


The Technical Pension Lead is responsible for providing expert technical and administrative support for the organisation’s SIPP product, ensuring compliance with pension legislation and high operational standards. This role combines hands-on pension administration with leadership responsibilities, including managing a direct report and supporting their development. The Lead will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth processing of pension transactions and excellent customer service.


Responsibilities:


  • Deliver advanced technical administration for our SIPP (Self-Invested Personal Pension) product, ensuring full compliance with UK pension legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage complex customer enquiries and provide clear, concise explanations of pension products, transfers, withdrawals, and related technical matters.
  • Resolve challenging pension-related issues, supporting both customers and the customer care team.
  • Liaise regularly with third-party custodians and external partners, ensuring prompt resolution of queries.
  • Oversee transfer and withdrawal requests, monitoring progress and maintaining detailed, audit-ready records.
  • Prepare and present operational reports and data summaries for internal teams and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor a direct report, taking responsibility for their performance, coaching, and professional development.
  • Drive continuous process improvements focusing on service quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Essential Skills & Experience:


  • Proven experience in a UK pensions technical or administrative role, with deep knowledge of pension legislation, SIPP products, and the mechanics of different types of pension transfers.
  • Strong understanding of compliance obligations within the pensions regulatory framework.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of breaking down complex information clearly for customers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and perform well under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and an aptitude for quickly learning new software systems.
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent).


Desirable:


  • FA2 qualification is beneficial but not essential; support for study will be provided.
  • Proven leadership experience with direct management or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Ability and confidence to take ownership of a direct report, supporting their growth and performance.

What you’ll get from us:


  • Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 depending on skills and experience.
  • 24 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing up to 28 days with service.
  • Flexible 37.5-hour working week, Monday to Friday between 8am – 5:30pm.
  • Hybrid working with at least 1 day per week in the office and monthly face-to-face team meetings.
