Technical Project Manager Canterbury Full-time
We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead and deliver complex engineering projects involving hardware and software/firmware systems. This role will see you managing projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, coordinating resources, managing stakeholders, and driving projects forward in a structured and proactive manner.
This position would suit someone with a strong engineering background and proven experience in project management, ideally within defence or a related sector. Experience with surveillance, target acquisition, reconnaissance technologies, or similar environments would be highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate project teams to ensure successful delivery of multiple engineering projects Define project scope, objectives, and technical feasibility with internal stakeholders Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets Monitor project progress, performance, and risks, implementing corrective actions where needed Manage changes to scope, schedule, and cost using appropriate processes Liaise with operations, supply chain, and external vendors to ensure alignment and delivery Prepare and present project reports covering status, budgets, and quality metrics Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle Ensure effective resource allocation and task delegation based on team capability Maintain comprehensive project documentationRequirements
Engineering background, ideally within a systems-related discipline Proven experience managing engineering projects (mechanical, software, electro-optics, or systems) Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and structured project gate processes Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills Experience managing budgets, costs, and project performance Familiarity with Microsoft Project and other project management tools Experience in maritime or defence environments is advantageous PMP or PRINCE2 certification is desirableSkills & Attributes
Strong leadership and team coordination abilities Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills Ability to manage risk and drive continuous improvement Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities Proactive, flexible, and solutions-focused approachDue to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain SC-level security clearance.
