We are seeking an experienced Technical Sales Manager to drive growth within the utilities market, combining strong technical knowledge with strategic, consultative sales expertise.\n\nThis is a fantastic opportunity for a technically-minded sales professional with experience in construction, industrial products, or steel systems to play a key role in expanding a specialist product offering into a high‑value sector.\n\nThe Role\n\nAs Technical Sales Manager, you will be responsible for developing new business, managing key accounts, and delivering technically detailed solutions to major utilities organisations and contractors.\n\nYou will manage the full sales cycle — from identifying opportunities and delivering technical presentations through to preparing proposals and securing contracts.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nSales & Business Development\n\nIdentify and win new business opportunities across utilities (power, water, gas, telecom).\n\nDevelop and execute effective sales strategies to achieve revenue targets.\n\nGrow and maintain relationships with existing customers within the utilities space.\n\nDeliver tailored technical presentations and product demonstrations.\n\nTechnical Expertise\n\nProvide accurate technical guidance on steel door systems, compliance requirements, and installation considerations.\n\nReview client specifications and ensure proposed solutions meet required standards (fire, security, BS EN etc.).\n\nClient Relationship Management\n\nBuild strong, trusted relationships with key decision-makers and contractors.\n\nRespond promptly to technical and commercial queries.\n\nProject & Proposal Management\n\nPrepare quotations, tenders, and costings for bespoke steel door projects.\n\nWork closely with engineering and production teams to ensure feasibility and timely delivery.\n\nMarket Intelligence\n\nMonitor competitor activity and sector trends within utilities.\n\nShare insights to support product development and continuous improvement.\n\nCompliance & Safety\n\nMaintain high standards of health & safety and regulatory compliance during site visits, proposals, and installations.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\nExperience\n\nProven technical sales experience within construction, industrial, or steel-based products.\n\nExperience working with utilities projects, frameworks, or procurement (desirable).\n\nTechnical Knowledge\n\nUnderstanding of steel fabrication, door systems, and relevant industry standards.\n\nKnowledge of fire safety and security certifications (advantageous).\n\nSkills\n\nStrong communication and negotiation ability.\n\nConfident presenting technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nAbility to balance technical requirements with commercial outcomes.\n\nHighly organised with strong project and time management skills.\n\nOther Requirements\n\nProficiency in MS Office.\n\nWillingness to travel for meetings, site visits, and inspections.\n\nPersonal Attributes\n\nThe ideal candidate will demonstrate:\n\nCustomer focus & accountability — takes ownership of the full sales cycle.\n\nCredibility & influencing skills — builds trust quickly with stakeholders at all levels.\n\nCollaboration — works effectively with internal technical and production teams.\n\nResilience & drive — thrives in long utilities sales cycles.\n\nAttention to detail — especially in proposals and technical documentation.\n\nIntegrity & professionalism — representing the brand with honesty and transparency.\n\nPerformance Will Be Measured By\n\nSales revenue and margin delivery.\n\nCustomer satisfaction and repeat business.\n\nAccuracy and timeliness of technical documentation and proposals.\n\nInterested?\n\nIf you’re a technically strong sales professional looking to develop your career in a specialist, growing sector, we’d love to hear from you.\n\nApply now or contact SFR Recruitment Solutions for a confidential conversation
