Test Development Engineer (ATE / Electronics / Embedded Systems) Location: Reading, Berkshire Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 basic + excellent benefits Sponsorship: They cannot offer sponsorship in this role. The Opportunity We're working with an innovative engineering organisation developing advanced electronic products. They are looking for a Test Development Engineer to play a key role in shaping and delivering Automated Test Equipment (ATE) solutions that support scalable, high-quality production. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved early in the product lifecycle, influencing design for testability and driving test strategy from concept through to full production. The Role - Test Development Engineer (ATE / Electronics / Embedded Systems) As a Test Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the definition, design, and deployment of automated test systems used in the manufacture of complex electronic products. You'll collaborate closely with hardware, software, and production teams to ensure robust, efficient, and scalable test solutions. Test Development Engineer (ATE / Electronics / Embedded Systems) Key responsibilities include: Defining Design for Testability (DfT) requirements during PCB and product design Developing and maintaining ATE requirements and test architectures Designing test hardware, including fixtures, interface boards, and switching systems Working alongside software teams to deliver automated test sequences and diagnostics Supporting NPI, pilot builds, and full-scale production Troubleshooting failures and driving yield and throughput improvements Validating and qualifying test systems prior to release Supporting ongoing improvements, scaling, and optimisation of production test systems Test Development Engineer (ATE / Electronics / Embedded Systems) Essential experience: Strong background in electronic hardware (digital, analogue, power, high-speed interfaces) Experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) in a production environment Knowledge of DfT, BIST, and test methodologies Hands-on experience with test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, switching systems) Ability to work cross-functionally with hardware, software, and manufacturing teams Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis skills Excellent documentation and requirements definition ability Test Development Engineer (ATE / Electronics / Embedded Systems) Desirable skills: Experience with embedded systems or complex PCB designs Knowledge of manufacturing processes (SMT, AOI, functional test) Experience in aerospace, defence, or industrial electronics Ability to design simple electronics for test fixtures Experience scaling test systems for production growth and throughput This is a great opportunity to join a highly successful global technology company that is rapidly expanding its Reading site.
