Automation Tester – Gov

Government | GDS | Remote | Outside IR35 | £375 -£400

SR2 is supporting a consultancy delivering a high-impact digital service for a central government client. We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary team, ensuring that services are robust, accessible, and secure.

This role will play a key part in shaping the quality of digital products, using automation and targeted manual testing to validate that systems work across multiple browsers, devices, and environments. You will focus on automation frameworks, API testing, accessibility, and security, ensuring that services meet both user and operational needs.

You will work closely with developers, service designers, content designers, and delivery leads to ensure software is reliable, user-friendly, and compliant with GOV.UK Design System standards.

Experience required:

• Strong experience in automation testing, including browser-based frameworks (Selenium) and BDD approaches using Cucumber/Gherkin.
• Programming experience in Ruby or similar languages to write and maintain automated test scripts.
• Experience with API testing (RESTful APIs) and tools like Postman or Newman.
• Familiarity with accessibility testing (e.g., WAVE, pa11y) and security tools (OWASP ZAP / Dependency Check).
• Solid understanding of version control using Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
• Experience in cross-browser and cross-device testing, ideally using platforms such as BrowserStack.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for automated test execution is desirable.
• Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, BlazeMeter) and GOV.UK Design System compliance is advantageous.
