Job Description

Our client, a highly regarded law firm, is seeking a driven and detail-oriented person to support its IP Solicitor team. This role is ideally suited to someone with a strong interest in contentious IP work who is looking to qualify as a solicitor in the future.


Key Responsibilities


Duties will include, but are not limited to:


  • Conducting legal and commercial research, including online investigations into client and third-party activities
  • Supporting investigative work such as test purchases, site visits, and document delivery
  • Drafting initial versions of emails, correspondence, witness statements, and court documents
  • Assisting in the preparation of evidence for soft IP matters (including trade marks, passing off, copyright, design rights, and database rights)
  • Supporting the team with new client enquiries
  • Liaising with external authorities (e.g. Customs and Trading Standards) and assisting with evidence preparation in both civil and criminal matters
  • Undertaking preliminary reviews of IP portfolios in support of litigation and audit exercises
  • Assisting with the preparation of court bundles, correspondence, and documentation for contentious proceedings
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records using electronic document management systems
  • Keeping abreast of developments in IP law and contributing to internal know-how, meetings, and written articles
  • Supporting fee earners with client presentations and materials
  • Attending meetings and producing accurate notes


Candidate Profile


The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A Law degree or PGDL (or equivalent) from a Russell Group University
  • A genuine interest in intellectual property law, particularly contentious matters
  • Strong organisational, research, and written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to manage competing deadlines and work effectively with multiple stakeholders
  • A proactive, motivated approach and the resilience to succeed in a fast-paced, high-quality environment
  • Previous experience in contentious IP (ideally within a City law firm) is advantageous but not essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
