The role

You'll be the person who turns a competent first-line team into a great one.

There's a Head of Operations and an experienced second-line team above you. Below you, a first-line team of bright graduates and people a year or two in, who handle the day-to-day running of the trading platforms, static data, client queries, morning checks, market open, rollouts.

They're good.

But the people running the team don't have the time to sit with them and shape how they answer the phone, how they reply to emails, how they build relationships with the banks on the other end of the line.

That's where you come in.

You'll get genuine ownership from day one. The Head of Operations and the second-line lead will hand off organisational work to you, release coordination for the trading platform, weekly platform calls, shift scheduling, monitoring and alerting decisions, DR testing, project delegation.

By six months you'll be running it.

By twelve months they want you bringing them ideas about what the team should be doing differently.

You'll be mentoring a team that already respects good operational thinking. The brief is to elevate them from "acceptable" to the kind of team where the big bank clients ring up and ask for one of your people by name because they actually know the client's business.

You'll work in a culture that is genuinely small-company. Trust over control. No layers to navigate. The people you'll be working alongside are sharp, direct, and want someone who can walk in and say "I see how this works, let me take some of this off your plate."

What makes you a great fit

• You've led or mentored a support team in a capital markets, exchange, trading venue, or trading technology environment.
• You understand the business of operations, incident management, client communications, shift coordination, release work, the rhythm of a trading day.
• You're comfortable enough in a Linux environment to not be lost when the team is troubleshooting, and you've come across FIX protocol before. You don't need to be the deepest technical person in the room, the second-line team handles that, but you can hold a conversation about a rejected order or a log file.

The technical environment includes: Linux, FIX, SQL, Jira, Grafana, with Python and bash scripting in use across the wider team.
