Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?
As a Trainee Site Engineer, you’ll be working on our Overhead Lines contracts across the UK.
The role will involve working away from home at varying locations across the UK on a ‘general’ working pattern of a ‘One-on’ - ‘One-off’ basis (working one weekend on and then one weekend off).
- Undertake training as required in order to learn the principles of 400/275/132kV overhead line construction & design.
- Gain an appreciation of the planning, preparation, and Implementation aspects of OHL work
- To undertake periods of study to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Periods in between attending college will be spent on site developing work-based skills
- Promote safety, health, and environmental initiatives e.g., Home Safe Every Day, throughout all projects within Transmission Networks
- Ensure Morrisons and the Clients standards are met/exceeded to at all times
- Actively promote the reporting of Safety Observation Reports. (SORS)
- Assist with undertaking monitoring and inspections in accordance with the site Safety Management System audit schedule to ensure all team are working to required Work Instructions
- Assist with the monitoring of work quality throughout and participate in climbing inspections when trained to do so, in line with the Site Quality Plan
- Report and provide feedback to the Site Management team of any quality related issues
- Report and provide feedback to the Site Management team of any environmental related issues
- Contact point for correspondence and meetings with third parties e.g., surveys, design, environmental consultants, utilities, services, etc
- Attend daily progress meeting and is responsible for ensuring that all information is communicated to the appropriate ‘Task allocator’
- Supervision of sub-contractors as requested and when trained to do so
- To undertake periods of study to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Periods in between attending college will be spent on site developing work-based skills
- Attend weekly safety dial in meeting
- In accordance with our certification to the ISO 9001/14001/45001 standards, each employee will comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of the current health and safety, quality and environmental policies
- Maintain excellent levels of communication throughout the team and the wider business
What you’ll bring
- Self-motivated and possesses good organisational and communication skills
- Team player
- Able to follow instructions both written & verbal whilst ‘challenging’ any instructions you feel is unsafe or do not understand
- Computer literate
- Basic knowledge of Health & Safety principles
- 5 x GCSE’s Grade C or above or equivalent, including English, Science & Math's or a Level 2 Apprenticeship
- Willing to travel to all operational sites throughout the UK and hold a full driving licence
- Staying away from home on a ‘one on one off’ basis
