Trainee Teaching Assistant

A larger-than-average primary school in Toxteth is seeking to appoint a Trainee Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team. Over the past two years, the school has successfully recruited three teaching assistants who are currently completing, or have recently completed, a recognised TA qualification. As part of their continued development and staffing needs, the Headteacher has partnered with Teaching Personnel to support further recruitment.

Role Overview

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant within the early years setting, you will support teachers in preparing lesson materials and ensuring a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment for pupils at the beginning of their primary education journey. During lessons, you will work closely with the class teacher to assist with classroom activities, encourage independence, promote learning, and help maintain positive behaviour.

Strong communication skills and enthusiasm are essential for helping pupils make progress, succeed, and overcome any challenges. You will also support various areas of the curriculum, including English, maths, and phonics.

Key Responsibilities

Support pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning at all times. Encourage pupils to develop independence where appropriate. Prepare the classroom for lessons and assist with tidying away afterwards. Support the class teacher in managing pupil behaviour and report any concerns. Help pupils understand lesson instructions and classroom routines. Provide curriculum support in English, maths, and phonics as directed by the teacher. Assist with pupil supervision during lunchtimes. Adhere to all school policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting any concerns to the appropriate member of staff.

Role Details

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday Additional duties: 30 minutes of welfare duty Eligibility: Suitable for individuals currently studying a TA/CACHE/Childcare qualification Location: Primary School in Toxteth (L8) Pay: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
