Transport Planner – Birmingham
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 (Dependent on Experience) + Comprehensive Benefits
A growing multidisciplinary consultancy is looking to appoint a Transport Planner to support the continued expansion of its Birmingham team. This role offers the chance to work on a wide variety of transport planning and infrastructure-led projects across the UK, within a collaborative and technically strong environment.
The position would suit a motivated planner seeking progression, increased responsibility and exposure to complex schemes from early feasibility through to delivery.
The Role
You will contribute to the technical delivery of transport planning projects, working alongside senior colleagues while also taking ownership of defined workstreams. The role includes analytical assessment, report writing, client liaison and supporting the development of junior team members.
Key Duties
* Prepare transport planning documentation including assessments, statements and travel plans
* Undertake junction modelling and capacity analysis using industry-standard software
* Produce technical drawings, reports and supporting materials for planning submissions
* Engage with clients, consultants and highway authorities at local and national level
* Manage tasks to meet agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards
* Review technical outputs produced by junior staff and provide constructive feedback
* Support and mentor less experienced team members
* Assist senior staff in providing transport and highways advice throughout the project lifecycle
* Carry out site visits and oversee traffic surveys and data collection
* Maintain accurate project records and documentation
* Contribute to the ongoing growth and profile of the Birmingham office
About You
* Degree-qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related field
* 2–5 years’ experience within a UK transport planning environment
* Working towards or holding professional membership (e.g. CIHT) is advantageous
* Strong analytical and numerical capability
* Confident user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
* Practical experience with junction modelling software (e.g. ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG)
* Knowledge of AutoCAD would be beneficial
