Job Description
About Us:
Newly Weds® Foods is a leading, privately owned global food ingredients business and has been innovating since 1932. The European division is a market leader in the manufacture of coatings, seasonings and functional ingredient systems.
Today, Newly Weds® Foods is a world leader in food ingredient technology. A network of R&D, manufacturing and service facilities around the globe allows us to serve our customers’ needs in more than 68 countries. But despite our size and scope, we’ve continued to be an independent, family-owned business answerable only to the demands of our customers. That’s why we continue to invest in infrastructure, human resources and capacity to keep pace with our customers’ needs and expectations.
The Role:
The Transport Planner is responsible for the efficient daily planning, scheduling, and coordination of the Ossett transport operation, including company fleet and spot-hire vehicles. The role ensures service levels are met, customer requirements are fulfilled, and all transport activities remain compliant, cost-effective, and operationally efficient.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Transport Planning & Scheduling
- Create daily transport plans covering fleet vehicles and spot-hire requirements.
- Optimise routes to maximise vehicle utilisation, minimise mileage, and control transport costs.
- Schedule collections, deliveries, & backhauls in line with customer requirements and operational constraints.
Operational Execution
- Liaise with warehouse, production, and customer service teams to align plans with product availability.
- Brief and debrief drivers, ensuring they understand routes, special instructions, and customer expectations.
- React to issues on the day (e.g., delays, vehicle breakdowns, customer changes) and replan effectively.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all transport operations meet UK legislation, including Working Time Directive, driver hours, vehicle regulations, and site safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for audits and compliance checks.
Customer Service
- Provide clear and proactive communication to internal teams and customers regarding delivery status, delays, and operational issues.
- Work collaboratively to resolve queries and improve service performance.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Track KPI performance for OTIF, cost control, utilisation, and service levels.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning efficiency and reduce transport spend.
- Contribute to transport projects and support the development of planning processes and systems.
Person Specification:
- Experience in UK & EU transport planning
- Strong knowledge of UK geography and transport legislation
- Ability to plan routes for multi-drop, full load and time-specific deliveries
- Confident working with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A background in FMCG, manufacturing, food production or similar time-sensitive operations is desirable
Additional Information:
Based at the Ossett site, you’ll be part of the Supply Chain Team. Working hours are Monday-Friday, 08.30-17.00, with 1 hour lunch, however due to the nature of the business a degree of flexibility is required.
