About the Role

An established Lloyd's of London managing agency is seeking an experienced Underwriting Performance Manager to partner with the Underwriting Portfolio Director in leading performance across a portfolio of managed syndicates.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity within the Underwriting Management function, offering exposure to senior stakeholders, board-level engagement, and the chance to shape underwriting strategy and portfolio outcomes in a dynamic Lloyd’s environment.

You will play a critical role in performance oversight, business planning, regulatory delivery, and team leadership—driving analytical excellence and commercial insight across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Performance Leadership

Oversee performance across a subset of managed Lloyd’s syndicates—monitor results against plan, identify drivers of variance, and implement corrective actions. Deliver high-quality portfolio insights to inform strategic decisions and underwriting direction.

Business Planning & Market Engagement

Lead the end-to-end business planning cycle, coordinating submissions with syndicate stakeholders, internal teams, and Lloyd’s to ensure accuracy, validation, and timeliness. Act as a primary interface between the managing agency, managed clients, and Lloyd’s on performance, planning, and strategic matters. Support onboarding of new syndicates, with a focus on underwriting strategy, planning, and performance frameworks.

Reporting, MI & Governance

Enhance underwriting MI and reporting—partner with MI & Analytics to evolve dashboards, performance packs, and insight-led reporting. Oversee underwriting-related regulatory returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Lloyd’s deadlines. Represent Underwriting at relevant boards and committees; brief the Underwriting Portfolio Director and CUO as required.

Leadership & Collaboration

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of analysts and assistants, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Act as SME for underwriting performance across business projects and cross-functional initiatives. Deputise for the Underwriting Portfolio Director when required, maintaining key Lloyd’s and client relationships.

About You

Experience: 5+ years within (re)insurance—ideally spanning underwriting, actuarial, finance, operations, or related disciplines. Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of how Lloyd’s syndicates operate within the managing agency framework. Analytical Strength: Highly numerate with exceptional attention to detail; able to deliver accurate, insight-driven work under tight deadlines. Stakeholder Management: Confident communicator, credible with senior leadership, clients, and regulators. Organisation & Drive: Proactive, structured, and able to manage competing priorities while exercising sound judgement. Commercial Acumen: Strong strategic awareness with the ability to connect portfolio performance to wider business objectives. Technical Capability: Advanced Excel skills with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems and tools. Qualifications: ACII (or equivalent) .
