About the role


• Reporting to the Head of Exposure Management, this role has responsibility for leading on Exposure Management Validation, View of Risk and Research projects and supporting other projects across all managed syndicates.

• Working closely with and supporting the wider Exposure Management team to help implement the syndicates view of risk.


As the Exposure Research and Validation Manager, your key responsibilities will involve


• Provide first class support to the Head of Exposure Management and the Chief Actuary.

• Leading the validation of external catastrophe models and supporting the wider team in ensuring model completeness across natural and man-made catastrophe risk.

• Leading on hot topics for Exposure Management including but not limited to Geopolitical and Climate Risks.

• Keeping up to date with and identifying emerging risks in the market and suggesting ways to monitor and assess these for the syndicate.

• Working closely with key stakeholders including Hannover Re to improve and add to the Syndicate view of risk.

• Working with the wider Exposure Management team to implement any findings of the model validation.

• Being the subject matter expert on latest developments and scientific research in the relevant fields required.

• Liaising with Lloyds on the syndicates view of risk including any principles of doing business reviews.

• Ensuring key Exposure Management documentation is concise and up to date.

• Ensuring the syndicate view of risk is kept up to date.

• Lead the parameterisation of additions to the internal model for both natural and man-made catastrophe risk, working closely with the wider Exposure Management team, wider Actuarial team and Underwriting.

• Supporting the wider Exposure Management team to inform internal, external reporting, and provision of regulatory returns.

• Suggest enhancements to increase efficiency and automation.

• Compiling and presenting findings of research projects including recommendations of adjustments to current processes.

• Actively demonstrate and inspire commitment to developing and supporting the Argenta culture.

• Undertake any other related duties as may be reasonably required.

About you


• Working knowledge of processes and procedures in respect of relevant catastrophe modelling systems, preferably Verisk.

• Excellent written communication skills required with strong experience of report writing, including writing concise and informative model validation reports.

• Scientific background preferred, with a natural catastrophe focus.

• Technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL server. Additional familiarity with other coding languages/statistical software such as R-Studio, Python and/or Visual Basic preferred.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• Accuracy and attention to detail essential.

• London Market experience, with strong analytical and mathematical skills.

• Excellent educational background to degree level or equivalent experience.

• Excellent understanding of (re)insurance financial terms, Lloyd’s market, and regulatory reporting desirable.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and develop working relationships with team members/other departments within the Argenta Group.
