The Volunteer Coordinator will lead the delivery of a telephone befriending service , providing emotional support to individuals experiencing loneliness and social isolation. The role involves recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers, managing referrals, and ensuring safe, well-matched partnerships that offer regular, person-centred support and improve wellbeing.
What we need from you:
Relevant experience of recruiting, supporting and retaining volunteers
Demonstrable knowledge of volunteer recruitment, selection and support processes
Experience of implementing or contributing to a volunteer strategy or development plan
Experience of delivering presentations and facilitating training in group settings
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures relating to vulnerable adults and children
Self-motivated and able to work independently, planning and prioritising workload to meet targets and deadlines
Positive, supportive and solution-focused approach
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Able to travel locally and regionally, and occasionally nationally, to attend meetings, conferences and training events
Desirable
Developing volunteer policies, procedures, and best practice guidance
Organising and supporting community or volunteer-led events
Monitoring, evaluating, and producing written reports
Identifying funding opportunities or supporting fundraising activities
What this role involves:
Recruit, select, train, and support volunteers from diverse communities, ensuring appropriate role matching, supervision, and ongoing development
Co-ordinate and manage referrals, volunteer partnerships, and service delivery, maintaining accurate and confidential records using the case management system
Review, update, and implement volunteer policies, procedures, and best practice guidance to ensure high-quality and compliant service delivery
Monitor, evaluate, and contribute to reporting on service effectiveness, outcomes, and continuous improvement
Promote the service across Sandwell, strengthening referral pathways, engaging stakeholders, and supporting volunteer communications and engagement
Ensure safeguarding, equality, and compliance standards are met at all times, responding appropriately to concerns, complaints, and feedback
Contribute positively to the wider team, making effective use of supervision, training, and professional development opportunities
Salary: £11,357 £12,074 per year (12-month fixed-term contract). Subject to Annual Salary Review from April 2026.
Hours: Working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays 10am 3pm - 15 hours per week. Flexibility required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
