Waste And Fleet Manager
New Yesterday
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to take on the vital role of Waste and Fleet Manager at Fylde Council.
With direct responsibility for over 80 employees, this is a high-profile position at the heart of our Waste and Fleet team. You will lead both strategic and operational aspects of our Waste and Fleet Services, ensuring they run efficiently, comply with all regulatory requirements, and meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
About the Role
Working closely with the Head of Service, you’ll provide daily leadership and oversight across the full spectrum of waste and fleet operations. Your role will include everything from compliance and service improvement to vehicle procurement and carbon footprint reduction.
You’ll be responsible for shaping the future of waste and fleet management at Fylde—embracing innovation, responding to changing legislation, and supporting the council’s wider environmental goals.
This is more than a management role—it’s an opportunity to lead and inspire frontline teams, influence strategy, and make a measurable impact for the borough and its communities.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and manage the council’s Waste and Fleet teams, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, safely, and to a high standard
· Ensure compliance with all waste and environmental regulations, and champion improvements in waste minimisation, recycling, and re-use
· Oversee the full lifecycle of the council’s fleet vehicles, including acquisition, maintenance, replacement, and safe disposal
· Act as the lead officer for fleet safety, legislative compliance, and vehicle specifications across all departments
· Support the council’s climate goals by planning and delivering initiatives to reduce the service and fleet carbon footprint
· Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including elected members, partners, contractors, and the wider community
· Provide strategic advice to senior management and elected members, including the preparation and presentation of reports and policy documents
· Lead on the development of long-term waste and fleet strategies, aligned with government guidance and council policy
· Be a joint keyholder for the Waste and Fleet Depot, providing out-of-hours cover as required
What We’re Looking For
· We’re seeking a confident and capable leader who can:
· Inspire, manage, and support large operational teams
· Demonstrate significant experience in waste or fleet services within a local government or similar setting
· Combine strong strategic thinking with operational excellence
· Build effective working relationships at all levels—both within the council and beyond
· Bring a proactive approach to service improvement, innovation, and sustainability
What We Offer
· A leadership role at the centre of a forward-thinking, community-focused council
· Up to 29 days annual leave, plus bank holidays (24 days on appointment, increasing with service)
· Flexible working arrangements and hybrid working options
· A generous Local Government Pension Scheme
· Health and wellbeing support, including discounted gym membership
· A genuine opportunity to shape services that make a daily difference to our communities
